i don't see why it's not a bad idea so it mus be good. team work is fun, requires some work on the computer to make but possible

DeletedUser

Very good idea!

But think if you did the job Rob a train, and you happend to shoot your team mate and hurt him.

And lets say he is a duler lvl 20 dueling lvl 22 and you are lvl 21 worker.

Then he will duel you the rest of your life!

DeletedUser

Shooting teammate.... No comment at this but it will add some chaos and randomized events during jobs.

DeletedUser

Well, no negatives for now; I hope it will pass through and encourage cooperation between players, and communication too...

DeletedUser1105

It won't be passed through yet. You have only discussed the general issue, now you need to break it down into details. How would each team job work? What is needed to start the job? How long does it last? Is it on top of the normal queue of work you can do? What do you get? What are the risks?

DeletedUser

The basic problem here is that most people think it is a good idea but no one apart from the OP thinks it should be put to a vote unless it is more fully worked out.

The basic idea is good, we like the concept, so now lets refine it.

Pros/cons?
Abuse options?
etc.

Well I see it that way:

There is a job spot, marked byt yellow background instead of white. It has the characteristics of a present job, but one more requirement, the number of characters needed for the job.

For example there is a job that require 2 characters:

Character1 (c1) clicks on the spot, sets up the length of the job (as usual) and clicks "start the job".

Character2 (c2) clicks on the spot, and has two options, "start the job" and a list of characters waiting for a team member to do the job with button "join"... If he decide to help c1 they start doing it, in that case c2 does not set up the length of the job but accept the time set by c1; If he decides not to help c1.... he sets up the time and click "start the job"...

Of course the job must be "unlocked" (labour points at least +1), just like now....

Ok sound interesting. You'd have to co-ordinate it with your town members or end up sitting there doing nothing until people joined, which is good.

1. Robbing train - only for bandits
- soldiers will definitely defend the train..

2. Fighting with Indians - hmmm...who's to attack?

3. Robbing bank - your own town?
(can you be a part of a town if your a bandit?)
4. Attacking fort - soldiers to defend and who's gonna attack?

5. Chasing a gang - for soldiers, mercenary and uhm adventurers...

so where can a soldier and a bandit be teammates?

Here is how I see it:

Problem
People wish to have more teamwork involved in the game.

Current Solution
They can join a town and help the town to grow, or help defeat enemies. All well and good, but the potential on this game is more than just that.

The Proposal
That 'Team Jobs' are created.

How It Could Work
  • Team jobs are created (see 'Example Jobs' below for ideas) and placed on the map as per any other job. It would be very similar to current 'single-player' jobs in that there would be 5 skill requirements and a difficulty rating. These would be significantly high. There would be two main differences though:
    1) It would only have an option to work for two hours (to keep it simple). And
    2) It would have a minimum requirement of 2 players needed to do the job.
  • The job would have to have a 'Walk To Job Site' button, much like the one in towns, and the work confirm button could only be used once there, much like banks/shops in towns (Re-use the same code, maybe?).
  • PLAYER A would have to walk to the job site and queue up a 2 hour job. He would have to have no other jobs/sleeps/walks queued BEFORE the job, but can queue them up for after. It would go into his work queue, showing 2 hours remaining, BUT WOULD NOT START. PLAYER B would then come along. He would see that there is already 1 person waiting to do the job. He would see the skill points needed, and would also see how many have already been accrued by PLAYER A. He could then join. If 1 labor point is reached, then the job starts automatically. If not, then it is queued the same as PLAYER A until PLAYER C comes along....and on and on.
  • Any player could cancel the job from their queue at any point before the job is started, but not after.

Experience and Money
It could work in 1 of 2 ways:
1)Each player recieves the same amount
2)It is scaled according to skill level i.e. the player with the highest skill points for that job gets the most, and the one with the lowest gets the least.

Other
  • It would be nice if a luck value was added for items too. Then, if an item was found in any of the 30 minutes, it would be randomly given to one of the players. Technically, one player could get 4 items, or there could be no items found, or 4 players could get one each. This would add extra dimensions to town politics too. Would you town founder demand that items found on team jobs be sold and the money donated to the town treasury?
  • Reports could go one of two ways:
    1) Each player gets his own report. Items found (and money and Xp should option 2 from the XP and Money above be chosen) would be hidden from other.
2)One big report is sent to all players, it shows who found what items (and money and Xp should option 2 from the XP and Money above be chosen - this would be interesting!)

Example Jobs
Robbing Trains
SKills needed: Appearence, Tactics, Hiding, Toughness, Stamina

Building A Bridge (Because let's face it, its a big job!)
Skills needed: Construction, Leadership, Repairing, Swimming, Tactics

As you can see, I think it needs to include a range of jobs that includes jobs suited to everyone. I have not worked out the skills and such, but hopefully there would at least one team job that everyone would be able to help with. It would be nice if a job could be created for mixed skills, such as:

Build and Guard a Fort
Skills Needed: Construction, Repairing, Aim, Tactics, Reflex

And others like it. Basically, a wide range of jobs that would need different types of teams to do.

Closing Statement
This would obviously be better suited to town members, as they could organise a team together and plan a time to go to the job site and start work. But, this system would ensure that it remains flexible enough for other players to join in the fun too. A townless adventurer could join the same job as a group of people from one town. It would just be harder for the 'loners' as they may be sat waiting at a job site for a while, waiting for other players to arrive and join.

Not bad.Its really interesting, but whats the diferent of doing a job with 2 people or alone?Do you get bonuses?

Excellent summary as always SDJX22. :)

I support this fully.

Matotaupa: I would assume these jobs could be exceptionally difficult, and hence impossible to do on your own at the given level, or situation.

DeletedUser1105

They could all have products that can only be gotten from the team jobs, maybe?

They would be high XP and money earners too.

This sounds like a very well thought out idea.

Would it be only accessible to players in towns, or can 4 random people work together?

Do you think it could be abused?

DeletedUser

I like the idea...

I think it should be town jobs...

where you can only do them with town members....

but that may make it harder to set up for the developers...

but I definitely say yes, it will help bring more members of the towns closer together and working together.....

maybe set up some way of forming alliances between towns, and making it in town or allied players to be able to team up

DeletedUser1105

Would it be only accessible to players in towns, or can 4 random people work together?
Four random people can work together. It would be easier for towns to organise, but random people can be involved too. It's fairer that way, easier to code, and more fun.

Do you think it could be abused?
Only the old 'multi-accounter' abuse, but it would be no different than someone with four accounts doing the same job with each character.

I think it should be town jobs...

where you can only do them with town members

I disagree. It would be unfair to those who are not in a town. This way, it is inclusive of everyone, especially if they make sure that the skills needed for jobs are all different to ensure as wide a demographic as possible.
