question about tactic

maybe i didnt well understand the tactic part of duel in help.
my question is : does tactic work for the duelr's defence when he is attacking someone.

Tactics don't work when your the person attacking someone.

Appearence is the skill used in attack, tactics are used in defence.

I think it works like:

Atk Appearence vs Def Tactics = highest gets bonus points towards the duel.
