I am new to 'The West'.

Just looking for a few friendly folk to give me a few hints on the way to proceed early to get the most out of the game in the long run.

Level 10 is looming on the horizon and I dont have a town yet, should i be in fear???

Actually you don't have to be in a town to have fun in this game.
But to get the most of it, you should join a town later. Just don't rush, there is plenty of things to do without being in a town.
If you just want to get in a town because that's something you feel you must do, contact ppl in some town near you and see if they'll accept you. If noone wants you, contact me ingame (the same nick: JoxerTM) and I'll send you an invitation to my town, but we're beginners just as you are and we don't want to build a hotel yet (we sleep at neighbors).

Also do read stickies in all forums, and today this nice thread was opened for adventurer newbies:

No you shouldn't worry about joining a town early on. I stayed without a town for about 50 levels on one world, just hopped around to shop from time to time. Others stay without a town for ever, and they have plenty of fun. If you want to be a builder or want to be a dueler/soldier to go around starting fights with people, then you need to join a town. Check here, its got a lot of good info for people just starting out.
