Gambling

Title is self explanatory. Gambling in my opinion is one of the biggest images I know of when I think of the Wild West. Putting in some poker would (in my opinion) increase game play.

Players would bet their wages against each other or their items. If you want to get into some bigger bets, even towns. (Not sure if you can own more then one town per person)

Ideas that have been mentioned...
Character Skill - A skill "gamble" to increase your odds of getting the card needed to win a hand.
Constructing a "gambling" building to have your town members play.
Dueling a winner to steal prize.
Host town taxing games to gain a small proffit.
Extra prizes besides the cash prize. Example: weapons, clothing etc.
Level requirment to play in a gambling house.

More ideas will be added. If your new, please read through the posts to get to speed.

I would like to mention that there was a previous post about gambling. I feel its not as descriptive as this one has grown into but I will mention it anyway. If you come across an idea or see something they are discussing and would like to bring it here, do so as I find this to be a really good idea.

like the idea, but it would be better as a skill, you could have the attribute as gambling, and skills, such as poker, black jack, etc.

Like... luck of a card skill I guess. The higher it is, the more likely youll get a good card that will help you win?

EDIT
Im kind of thinking like actually playing the game instead of clicking it and having another window tell you if you win or lose.

sorta, but more as in the higher your skill the better chances of winning you have and it can be simmed, or played manually

It could run in a similar way to the duel i guess... by challenging and winning what the other person has to offer!

Or you could make a special casino on the map like sort of a town,
where you can gamble

or has a new building in the town. when you use your casino, you could have a better chance of winning

The problem is most people just come online queue a few jobs and go offline so it would be difficult to find online players in the same betting house unless there was only one on each world.

I can see the concept. An additional building opted for by those that live in the town, available to town members and visitors with 2 options.

1. Player VS player(s)
2. Player VS computer or NPC.

The second option could utilize the skill point system to improve odds against the program to account for skill/experience in the game if a live player is not available.

Player VS player(s): Let the better man win.

(Then the loser could claim cheating and have a duel or shootout...)

it could be interesting because if someone won big you could mug them....again a realistic wild west scenario. It is indeed such an iconic image that they use it on adverts for the game. There might be the problem that second-life had of yer actual gambling websites operating on the game and it getting subsumed into another commercial operation at the expense of the game.

Nice idea, works for me.....as long as you mean the 'quests' saloon and not the individual town saloons.

Im actually fine with where ever its held at. My general idea of how this would work is I guess a perfect world for me and probably something that would never happen but its nice knowing I have an imagination still.

Takes place held in towns (popular towns would probably get more attention)

Towns would set taxes so that if a gambling tournament was held, a buy in would be like $100 and they would tax 10% of that. The rest goes into final, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th etc.

Extra prizes can be thrown in by the town suppporting the event. (Dueling items, clothing, etc.) Better the extra prizes are, the more people would come to your event. Posting extra prizes on forums would be a main source of advertisment.

I know that idea would most likely never happen but it would go something like that. I know the town thing might be a problem so sorry if I dissapoint users about it but its just a thought.

an idea to stop the people from useing the game for the poker, you set the level for gambling higher, so you have to play for a bit before you can gamble, maybe 15, or 20, or perhaps 25

i like it alot, maybe also monthly poker tournaments, where u can sign in as a player and bet ur wages. ALso it can be located in a particulair town and the place where the tournament takes place changes each time. With the organizing town gets a small cut of the income for holding it in their borderlines. Profit for every town, espacially good for little towns in progress who can use the cash. All the players in the world can participate but u still have to walk there, so if a town is very far way..
Maybe the chosing of the organizing town can be done at random choice by the computer but once u organised one, ur ruled out for organizing the next tournament until every town had a chance to do. ALso the oldest town get firts dibs; just a tought.

Wild dick

The reality one is up against is that even active players spend maybe 1 hour a day on the game, so the chance that in, or near, a given town there will be enough people wanting to play is very slim. therefore you would have to pool the players but maybe a casino as something that a big town could have might be nice.

I can agree. Get the players to understand the game befor playing some rewards.

I think to fix this, you would have to build an addition to your Saloon?

I think it would actually increase players.
**EDIT** Time spent on the game.
