There Are Way Too Many Towns, So Lets Transform Them!

nah, he's right. but how can one make such ideas prosper and survive in such a dark aand seeminly empty game as the west?

Well, you could just call it a Cellar when there's only 1 member.
It would then be a Ranch when there are 2 members.
When there are 3 members, it would change to a Farm.
When there are 4-5 members, it would then become a Town.

There will be no changes to the buildings, etc., etc, except that maybe,
the large map should show just 1 building if there are 1 or 2 members only.

Just that little name above the town name would change
from Cellar to Ranch to Farm to Town.

This is a lot easier.

PS: And if there are no members, it would be called a Ghost Cellar.
now thats an idea for a future world maybe!;)

Maybe ranches could be linked to towns so each town is connected to several farmers and the money goes into the town treasury which can be used to build both farm and town buildings. Effectively the farm provides a good job for everyone on the town to try: perhaps farming could have some good experience???

sounds like a plan to be developed! some way of getting more of an income to the town sounds like a great idea!!:)

agreed: the money would partly go to the farmers but also to the town treasury.

Communists!
Towns don't own farms!
This is the West (e.g. a time in AMERICAN history, which by the ways is a capitalist country and always has been). If there is a farm added to the town it would have to function just like the hotel and the stores - nobody gets the money!

read the post.
you are effectively "employed" by the farm who pay you. As you work, you make money that benefits the town.
Hows that communism?
Its an extra that would be fun and cool to have.

It's communism because the government (i.e. the town) gets your earnings. Duh!

Holy crap people. It's a pretty simple concept. If person A starts a farm, it is typically quite small. First you have to build a house, ranch style, hacienda, log cabin, it doesn't matter, but those are options that could be used. Next you need a well and some sort of crop or live stock to tend. This is daily work in the real world, why wouldn't it be in the game? Also, the jobs this person can't do because they have to tend their farm can't give them money. So, at the end of the season when they can sell their crops/new animals should be larger so they can gain cash items. As these farms grow, they will REQUIRE more people to help them function. Build a bunk house for the next 5 people to be hired. These people require a wage, food, living quarters... on and on. They are expected to mend fences, herd cattle, sow, weed and harvest fields. The thing is the owner of the ranch sets their wage. It's competitive so you now have to provide a decent wage to have people work for you or you spend even more time trying to keep up. The owner may also go work jobs to earn money to pay those wages. This idea provides a lot of variation to the game, is in keeping with the reality of the old west and is a huge challenge to pull off. The only advantage to the farm idea is if you've developed a character who has somehow amassed a great deal of money and decided to start a farm or ranch later in life. Oddly, this too fits in with the real old west as that's how many people chose to make more money. Gain lots of cash then start a cattle ranch. Along with this idea, we should look at possibly owning stores, casinos, bordellos... all the things that helped shape America into the unique place it is today.

Ulthor, if you don't get the money you earned and the town GOVERNMENT gets the money - it's Communism.

It's communism if everyone owns the resources. For a small elite to own a resourse as their 'private property' is a form of capitalism.
Depends where you are coming from really.
